Dr. Hudson is a professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He also serves as the director of the Biological Psychiatry Laboratory and the director of the Psychiatric Epidemiology Research Program at McLean Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School
Dr. Hudson has been treating and researching eating disorders for more than 26 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Yale College and earned his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine. He also holds a doctorate in epidemiology, along with a master’s degree in biostatistics, from the Harvard School of Public Health.
He is an author of more than 200 scientific papers and is currently conducting research on the genetic epidemiology of eating disorders, mood disorders, fibromyalgia, personality disorders and substance use disorders. He also conducts clinical drug trials for such disorders as generalized anxiety disorder, fibromyalgia, depression and binge eating disorder.
Dr. Hudson serves on the Clinical and Scientific Advisory Council for the National Eating Disorders Association. He was a founding member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorders Research Society. He has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” for eating disorders.
Dr. Pope is a professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and director of the Biological Psychiatry Laboratory at the McLean Hospital Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Center. He is an author of more than 300 scientific papers and has authored seven books, including The Adonis Complex: The Secret Crisis of Male Body Obsession.
Dr. Pope has published widely on the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders, psychotic disorders, eating disorders and anxiety disorders. More recently, he has published a series of studies on body image in men and boys, including studies on the use of anabolic steroids and similar drugs. He is a graduate of Harvard College and earned his master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Pope has performed studies of the neuropsychological effects of marijuana, brain imaging studies in marijuana users, studies of the neuropsychological effects of hallucinogens and of alcohol in Native Americans, and studies of abuse of MDMA (“ecstasy”). Dr. Pope currently devotes most of his time to research and teaching. He sits on a number of advisory boards, including Science Technology and Media and the Technical Advisory Group to the CASA National Commission on Sports and Substance Abuse.
Dr. Cynthia Bulik is the William R. and Jeanne H. Jordan Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill, where she is also professor of nutrition in the School of Public Health and director of the UNC Eating Disorders Program.
A clinical psychologist by training, Dr. Bulik has been conducting research and treating individuals with eating disorders for the past 24 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and her master’s and doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. Bulik has written more than 280 scientific papers and chapters on eating disorders. She is author of the books Eating Disorders: Detection and Treatment (Dunmore) and Runaway Eating: The 8 Point Plan to Conquer Adult Food and Weight Obsessions (Rodale) and the CD-ROM EMPOWER Solution for Healthy Weight Control (www.empower-plan.com). She also developed a soon-to-be-released family-based internet program Food, Fun, and Fitness.
She is a recipient of the Eating Disorders Coalition Research Award, the Hulka Innovators Award, the Academy for Eating Disorders Leadership Award for Research and the Carolina Women’s Center Women’s Advocacy Award. She is a past president of the Academy for Eating Disorders, vice president of the Eating Disorders Coalition and associate editor of the International Journal of Eating Disorders. Dr. Bulik holds the first endowed professorship in eating disorders in the United States.
