McLean Hospital Offers Tobacco Treatment Program

January 25, 2001 -- Belmont, MA -- Looking to stop smoking in the New Year? Call McLean Hospital's Tobacco Treatment Program.

McLean is offering an eight-week ‘quite smoking’ program for the general public on Tuesday evenings, beginning Feb. 6. The cost of the program is $40 and financial aide is available.

The program is designed to educate smokers about the process of kicking the tobacco habit. A portion of the program is dedicated to relapse prevention, including teaching the importance of changing behavior, managing stress and dealing with withdrawal symptoms, urges and cravings. The classes also will explore the role of diet, exercise, relaxation and support. Nicotine replacement agents, such as gum and patches, are also discussed.
